So I think I'd best post a little !
My name is Carolyn, I live in Manchester with my spouse, and work in a fairly boring job.
I much prefer my spare time, and when I can I enjoy and various other typical nerdy pursuits.
My prounouns are she/her and I am bisexual (or pansexual, I can never resolve which in my head!)
I am always up for a good nerd-out over yarn/sewing, or any of my interests really, and I am always down to make new friends!

As its June, I've been making lots of rainbow themed things.

I've made a crochet lap blanket, lanyards (I have lots, if anyone wants to purchase any!), and a handbag.

I am currently working on a cardigan, and I am hoping I can finish it in time to wear on Monday but I'm not sure if I will have enough time.

We didn't manage to get back to the Holy Trinity church, but we did drop in to Shibden Hall on our way back home.
An absolutely gorgeous building, and on coming home I've caught up with the latest episode and every time they're in a room we went in, I said "I've been in that room." to Chris, who knows because he was also there. It's little things ghat entertain me.

More York wanderings today, we went to go to the Holy Trinity on Goodramgate but its closed until Wednesday so we could only peek in through the gates - we will be back later in the week when it is open! We did, however, stumble upon a cat cafe and spent an hour with some gorgeous felines!

We've gone a small wander in York today, and been down the lane used in Gentleman Jack season one finale as the ladies are going to/from the church.
We've not gone to the church yet as it's in another location, but we will be back to have another mooch later in the week.

Why do I buy mixed beads? Separating out the ones I need is far too time consuming!

Are there any folks out there who know about or can point me in the right direction?

This is a Hengestenberg Regina, made in (about) 1890.

It belonged to my Great Grandmother, and has been passed down to me. The hand crank works and the needle goes up and down, but the bobbin winder doesn't work due to the rubber wheel being very old and seizing. I've got a new one on order, so I am hoping that will work and I will be able to fill the bobbin and see if it will sew!

Today continues my trend of getting it straight away or not at all.

@almost_topical and I went out for a nice drive in the countryside today (origanl plan had been a walk and picnic but weather and lack of parking put paid to that), now we've come home to have a chill and watch some classic Doctor Who, but we've both fallen asleep and missed most of the serial.
I woke myself up with a particularly loud snore, he's still snoozing peacefully.
Next time we go out, we'll plan things better but we're out of practice due to the pandemic.

I shaved my hair off on 20th Nov 2021 to raise money for Macmillan, and I've taken a photo most days to get a timelapse of it growing out- this is it so far!

Modest proposal for Mastodon newcomers

You came here to leave behind algorithmic feeds, advertisement and annoying overruling billionaires. But, probably, you won't immediately delete all your corporate social media accounts. It's not easy, I get it.

The good news is that being active in different social media could mean experimenting with different social media behaviors. If corporate social media are spammy and attention-grabbing, why not using them only for the spammy and attention-grabbing posts, for the relentless self-promotion that many of us are sort of required to do for work?

Let's leave the eyeball-accumulation mindset to birdsite (that's what we call Twitter here), facebook and instagram. Free from that burden, we can make this a space of authentic exchange, not one where everyone shouts at one another while nobody is listening.

I'm building my Odd Socks collection, I've pretty much got my pattern down now I just need to get some sock forms so I can get nicer photos of the socks - this pic does not do them justice.

I am thinking of trying out some different sock patterns, but I also have the fear that I won't be able to do them right as I'm bot good with written patterns.

Birb alert! It's Penny, our mischievous Sun Conure.

She can say "you ok?" "Love you" "breakfast" and "boobies", which gives you a good insight into our family 🤣
